Essense of Martha's Vineyard, the apothecary style custom blending
perfume salon on The Vineyard, will be opening a new primary
location in Meredith Village, New Hampshire during this
up coming year. Essense originally began as perfume oil work shop
called "Body Scents" in Woodstock, New York during the late 1970's.
After moving to Martha's Vineyard in the early 1980's, it became
"Essence Natural Perfumes," and has since morphed into "Essense
of Martha's Vineyard," starting in 1994, after a 3rd change in
ownership. Enduring three location changes, the current shop is
in Oak Bluffs on a tranquil forested hideaway lot, on the edge
of the Manuel F. Correllus State Forest of over 5000 acres. Previously,
Essense operated from The Colonial Inn in Edgartown until 2001,
when the current tin-roof apothecary shop was built to house the
400-plus collection of old apothecary bottles filled with new
& old magical scents. Essense is the first and original perfume
blending bar on Martha's Vineyard, thought there are several imitators
and spin-offs on the island now. The new Essense will find it's home in a 200 year old post & beam barn that used to be a county dance hall. The perfumery will be sharing space with a custom blending tea cafe, antiques & art gallery. The current location in Oak Bluffs is still used for custom blending appointments, perfume parties & perfume mail order business. Thanks to all Essense customers for their patience & loyalty, some for over 30 years, and thanks to all those amazing patrons who have helped created some of the most intoxicating , unique & beautiful perfume scents on the planet! There is nothing like a fabulous scent to lift the human spirit and make ALL of life more alluring. Mail order and web order service are available year round. Essense of Martha’s Vineyard & Meredith Village has absolutely NO affiliation with any other stores, imitators, chain-stores, or conglomerates by this same, or any other similar name. There is only ONE Essense, and it continues into it's second quarter century of providing the finest natural perfumes. |

Fragrance: Purple Hayes ™ Purple Hayes is an original Essense trademarked fragrance oil created in honor of friend and hair designer extraordinaire, Kelly Hayes of Minneapolis. Purple Hayes is a 1970's inspired fragrance reminiscent of Hendrix music and incense. A deep Oriental scent with base notes of: patchouli, ambergris and frankincense--this fragrance is punctuated with all smells of purple: lavenders, violets, and jasmines. An extremely sexy scent for both men and women--it incorporates edible base, middle and top notes of vanilla, citrus, and and spices, the accents of the "gourmand" fragrance trend so popular today. This unisex fragrance is fabulous when worn alone on wrists and neck, or carried in a moisturizing body lotion. Men can further "deepen" this scent, make it more masculine by mixing additional base notes with Purple Hayes. Good base notes to add might include: ambergris, musk, or sandalwood. Another Essense house blend, "Earth" is a great partner for Purple Hayes. Earth includes: Patchouli, Oak moss, and Vetiver. For all those "foxy ladies" out there--you might try mixing Purple Hayes with additional vanilla, jasmine, light floral musk, or more purple flowers!
