Floral-Fresh Perfumes

Floral-Fresh Perfumes are classic floral themes that incorporate spring-like, light scents such as Hyacinth, Lily of the Valley, Orange Blossom, for example. Often freshened with Bergamot or other citrus components, and lately “modernized” with Oceanic & Ozone accords.

Rain™is the ever popular classic floral-fresh perfume, created and trademarked by a California perfumer, in the 1970s. There are many imitations of this “California girl” fragrance but this is THE original. Customers describe this scent as a “freshly showered clean” smell. Good for office wear & everyday, this perfume has fresh light floral notes with a gentle spring-like bouquet.

China Rain™is the second most popular perfume, which is a blend of the classic Rain, as described above and China Musk, the most popular musk. The result is this floral-fresh scent mixed with elegant and sexy light musk base notes.

Waterlily™is a lighter, sweeter “Rain-type” scent, but with a higher, more “floating” quality due to the addition of beautiful Freesia flower notes. This perfume can be combined with other floral notes, like Plumeria, Magnolia or Jasmine, as well as other Musks. One of my favorite blends is Waterlily with Oriental Musk and African Violet.

House Blend Perfumes are those created and trademarked by Essense since 1991, when Tamsan purchased the business. Available only here, these unique Essense scents will be rotated throughout the year. Your favorites, even if not currently shown here, are always available by emailing Tamsan.

Vineyard Rain™was created in 1993 and inspired by sand, sunshine, ocean and the wild Beach Roses that grow along the dunes bordering the many beaches of Martha’s Vineyard during the late Spring and Summer. This light floral scent marries Beach Plum’s hibiscus-like notes with those of Oceanic, Seashore and Beach Rose, mixing all of them into the freshness of classic Rain. Very popular!

Unisex Perfumes

I am what I am. (unicute!)

Unisex Perfumes smell  equally desirable  on men or women. These three particular pure perfumes, applied on pulse points at wrist, neck, back of hair line or on beard, combine well with anyone’s skin’s chemistry for a subtle fragrance that lasts all day. Also, these three scents can be combined with each other for different effects.

Forest Rain™is the previously described Rain with the addition of woodsy Cedar and green Pine notes, for a fresh outdoorsy scent. Reminiscent of fresh air and fresh rain in forest woodlands, this scent is not overpowering, but gentle. Excellent worn alone, but can be combined with additional snappy Herbaceous accords, like Aloe Vera, Pinion, Sage, Snow Pea or Sweet Pea.

China Musk is an elegant and popular White Musk suitable for both sexes. Strict regulations by the fragrance industry require that all musks made and/or sold in America are synthetic. Once upon a time, “musk” pheromones were taken from glands of tiny deer that roamed rural China. That  practice has been outlawed for  sometime, and  these remaining deer are protected. Synthetic China Musk, created to mimic the “natural” is extremely alluring, without the price tag and environmental damage. Musk makes everybody, male or female, smell quite “naturally” sexy to others. This fragrance concentrate mixes well with other musks as well as other masculine and feminine scents.

Tunisian Opium is an exquisite Poppy-inspired Oriental-type perfume with spicy Cinnamon middle and top notes. Extremely long lasting, this  Opium will change with body chemistry, generally becoming softer and powdery on females and intensely spicy on males. One bottle of this fragrance can last for years, so it’s economical. This erotic scent mixes very well with China Musk, Forest Rain, Rain and exotic Florals like Gardenia, Jasmine, Pikaki or Ylang-Ylang. Two of my favorite blends include Tunisian Opium mixed with a hint of Sudanese Black Coconut or Tunisian Jasmine. After 25 years in this business, I conclude Tunisian Opium to be the “most dangerously sexy” fragrance in the Essense vault. Essense is not responsible for unintended results...

Purple Hay-Z™is a “heady” incense-like unisex perfume, inspired by growing up in the late 1960’s and 1970’s. Created by Essense in 1994, to celebrate my love of all things purple and Jimi Hendrix music. Memories are translated into perfumery by this blend of Patchoulis, Frankincense, various Musks, Vanilla and Spices, topped off with many purple flowers like Jasmines, Lavenders and Violets. Can be further customized to suit either men or women. Naturally, this scent smells especially evocative on musicians!

Winnipesaukee Hippee™is a more recent creation, an olfactory salute to the new home of Essense, near the shores of majestic Lake Winnipesaukee. Amongst the Lakes Region natives I have discovered the “Live Free or Die” spirit still remains in both young and old hippees, yankees, veterans, artisans, tradespeople, artists, writers, farmers, fishermen, retirees and young families... all who cherish the clean air, water and remarkable scenery of this area. This scent is a blend of very light Patchouli Flower, with Earth base and top notes of Fresh Air and Waves. Can be further tailored for either masculine or feminine personality.

Seasonal Perfumes

Summertime, and the livin' is easy . . .

Seasonal Perfumes change according to the season; Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. Much like menus items in restaurant, the perfumes change according to ingredients available and desired, for the season. For example, Pumpkin, or Pumpkin Pie Spices may be used for perfume “notes” in the Autumn, while Pine Cone, Orange and Clove, or Pomegranate could be used for Winter perfumes.

Vineyard Sunshine™created and trademarked by Essense of Martha’s Vineyard, this perfume smells like “sun shower” in a bottle. Gentle. warm and lovely, from the Apricot, Lemon and Bergamot top notes layered over relaxing base notes of Cedar Wood and light Amber. Mixes very well with White Musks, Seashore, Grapefruit and Edgartown Breeze™ perfumes.

Summer Martini is a fresh and sassy fragrance unifying modern fragrance composites of Ocean and Gin with fresh Cranberry, Lemon and Lime top notes and classic Orange Blossom middle notes. This perfume is as refreshing and delicious as your favorite summer martini, without the hangover!

Sex On The Beach is named after another favorite summer drink and reminiscent of summers spent on the sand, sunbathing, reading, watching kids build sand castles, and...well, you know. This is a sexy Light Musk fragrance blended with tropical fruits Papaya and Coconut.
